Summer Camp (Week 1 - 4)
Dates: Week 1: July 4 - 7, Week 2: July 11 - 14, Week 3: July 18 - 21, Week 4: July 25 - 28
Space Adventure Camp combines fun with the opportunity of building and launching model rockets, designing and building robots, and flying drones. Campers will also have a chance to go behind the scenes at a working aerospace facility to witness STEM in action firsthand and meet professionals.
Whether experienced in rocket building or not, students will get a chance to build and launch several types of rockets. As skill and interest levels vary, campers will build their first rocket from a kit, and the second rocket will be custom-built.
The robotics program uses Lego Mindstorms EV3 kits to challenge students of any skill level. Each camper will design, build and program their robots and incorporate competitive challenges to task their robots with specific actions.
Advanced Camp (Week 5 only)
Week 5: Aug 1 - 4
Advanced Camp is for returning campers and those with more experience in rocketry or robotics. Students will select their focus for the week, deciding whether to concentrate on rocketry or robotics. Campers will face more complex design, construction, programming challenges, and problem-solving. Campers who select robotics will utilize Arduino to build a robot using gears, circuits, and metal parts. Campers who choose rocketry will use CAD design and 3D printers to build their rocket from scratch with altimeters to capture measurements during flight. Advanced campers will also have an opportunity to go behind the scenes at a working aerospace facility to see STEM in action, meet professionals in the field, and learn about internships and careers.
