Explore the Cosmos- Astronomy Module

The night sky has captivated humankind since we first looked up. Set off on a journey of exploration of the cosmos from our cosmic shores here on earth to the deep waters of distant galaxies. You’ll learn how to identify constellations that dance across the night sky, nearby planets, and even our neighboring galaxies. You will learn the mechanics of our solar system, how it formed, and delve into our closest neighbor and how it affects us here on earth. You will then set off to explore other exciting celestial phenomena such as nebulae, black holes, and more.

Each STEM Academy Explorer will receive a physical kit (~$100 value) of tools and materials to help guide their journey. Additionally, you will have access to digital resources curated just for this course. STEM explorers will engage in the curriculum through live class sessions, asynchronous at-home activities, and complete assignments (such as telescope assembly and stargazing).

2022 Offerings
February 8 – March 4, 2022*
May 2 – May 27, 2022*
*Additional time allowed for completion of coursework

Cost: $200 per STEM Explorer per module (partial scholarships available). Early bird discount: $150 until January 31, 2022, at 11:59 pm EST.

Kit Details: Each kit comes with approximately $100 worth of materials related to the course. The astronomy module kit contains a Galilean telescope, guides to the night sky, tools for astronomy, and an actual piece of space! Kits are designed to be supplemented with tools and materials readily available in most homes.

Course Details: Students will engage in 4-5 live interactive sessions with our STEM Education Specialist and special guest speakers. Students will engage in asynchronous activities and complete assignments in between live sessions. The module will make use of the Google Classroom platform for assignments, etc. Live sessions will be scheduled based on student availability and conducted through Zoom.

Students completing the module may be eligible for scouting badge credit.

Take to the Skies – Aerospace Module

Humans have always dreamed of taking to the skies and soaring high like birds but didn’t realize that dream until the early last century with the advent of powered flight. We will discover what makes flight possible and even how to harness greater energy and lift off into space. Join us to discover the science of all things flying and ignite your passion for exploration beyond the earth’s surface!

Each STEM explorer will receive a physical kit (~$100 value) of tools and materials to help guide their journey. Additionally, you will have access to digital resources curated just for this course. STEM explorers will engage in the curriculum by utilizing live class sessions, asynchronous activities, and complete assignments (such as constructing and testing model flying machines).

2022 Offerings
April 4 – April 29, 2022*
May 30 – June 24, 2022*
September 26 – October 21, 2022*

Mission: Possible – Robotic Exploration – Robotics/Coding Module

Robots, originally the dreams of science-fiction, are found everywhere these days; assisting in manufacturing, performing complex surgeries, or exploring hostile environments on earth and other planets. You will dive into what a robot is, what makes it work, and why they are being used everywhere. You will learn how engineers design robots to complete specific tasks. You will build and program a series of robots with guidance from live sessions and the app. You will then design, build, program, and test a robot to accomplish a specific task.

Each STEM Academy Explorer will receive a physical kit (~$150 value) of tools and materials to help guide their journey. Additionally, you will have access to digital resources curated just for this course. STEM explorers will engage in the curriculum through live class sessions, asynchronous at-home activities, and assignments.
