The Advanced Camp (Week 6) is designed for returning campers and those with more experience in rocketry and robotics. Students face more difficult design, construction and programming challenges, and they need to come up with their own unique solutions to problems.
Students at Advanced Camp select their preference for the week, deciding whether to concentrate on rocketry or robotics. Computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D printing projects will be employed. You will be building your own rocket from scratch with altimeters to capture measurements.
Create Your Own Electronic Satellite Payload
New this year in robotics will be the opportunity to create your own electronic satellite payload using sensor hardware from Phase I of Virginia Space's ThinSat Program. Students will be able to test their payload using either balloons or drones.
Some pre-camp computer-based homework may be required for rocketry and robotics. It will give you a head start once you arrive at camp. Field trips will also be part of the week-long program.
