2021 Field Trips
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines and our current plan to create and protect our camp bubble, we will not permit camp visitors during the summer season. Our field trips to off-site locations will depend on COVID-19 requirements and guidelines.
Currently, NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility is not permitting groups on their island and main bases, and this restriction is expected to last through the summer. Alternately, we have made plans to visit the new Rocket Lab facility, located just outside of the NASA gate. The Rocket Lab visit will provide a unique behind-the-scenes look at an innovative aerospace company. Campers will meet and interact with rocket engineers, and since they have their own range control center, the students might also have the opportunity to perform a mock rocket launch!
We will continue to offer fun-filled evening programs, but those may look a little different this summer based on the CDC guidelines for group gatherings. Every cabin will have a fun activity planned each night, but there is a possibility that not every cabin will be doing the same activity on the same night.
One of the many benefits of our new temporary location at Lower Shore Family YMCA is that we will have plenty of space to spread out on its 100-acred wooded campus!
We will have campfires, games, space-themed challenges, and night-sky viewing. We may also take advantage of the YMCA’s Zipline and Outdoor Filtered Pond activities like canoeing and paddle-boarding. We will continue to monitor guidelines and evolve our plan to maximize the fun factor for our campers and staff this summer.
