Dear Friends of Virginia Space Flight Academy,
With help from our sponsors and supporters in 2020, the Virginia Space Flight Academy (VSFA) wasted no time securing additional resources and developing new strategies to keep the organization viable and the camp community engaged, laying the framework for a return to camp and new programs in 2021.
Because of this support, VSFA was not only able to return to an overnight camp this year but also launch a new S.T.E.M. Academy. The S.T.E.M. Academy will provide students with high-quality learning experiences at home. This summer, we will launch the first modules, a combination of asynchronous exploration, live sessions, and hands-on activities. The S.T.E.M. Academy will expand reach by targeting new audiences and create classes of future campers. We couldn’t have done this without our sponsors and supporters.
The economic and emotional hardships of 2020 have impacted many families and continue to impact young people’s education and social-emotional development. While none of us know what the future may hold, there is one thing we know for sure during this critical time: Now more than ever, kids need camp. This need was amply confirmed by the flood of registrations we received in the first 48 hours that registration opened this year.
Thanks to generous donors, VSFA was able to meet the challenges of 2020 and begin preparations for summer 2021 – our most crucial summer yet. Here are some ways you can make a difference and support these efforts today:
Equity and Inclusion through Scholarship Fund Support
All children deserve the opportunity to attend camp. Please help us build a robust scholarship program to cover camp tuition and the cost of future enrollment in the new S.T.E.M. Academy.
We are currently seeking funds for 15 summer camp scholarships
and support for 20 S.T.E.M. Academy enrollments.
Strengthen our Ability to Navigate the Future
As preparations continue for summer, VSFA is working tirelessly to protect the health of our campers, counselors, and community by securing necessary equipment and resources. Operational needs include procurement of materials like laptops, Arduino kits, and Non-Pharmaceutical Intervention (NPI) supplies to achieve the best health, safety, and risk management standards.
Making a gift today helps ensure more students take part in VSFA’s programs and, with that, more young citizens become equipped with the knowledge and experiences gleaned from the unique S.T.E.M. opportunities and careers in the Wallops community and Eastern Shore.
Please join me in making a gift – in whatever amount you are able – to support VSFA’s work in championing our local youth…brightening their lives today and igniting their futures!
With gratitude and hope for the future,
Frank Moore, President
VSFA Board of Directors
